Two miners die as rocks collapse


Police have registered an inquest following the death of two suspected illegal miners after a mixture of soil and rocks collapsed on them while they were seemingly mining for chrome at Ga-Makgoba village outside Malipsdrift on Tuesday.
Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo said Police were called to the scene and found the body of one of the men partially immersed in soil. The Search and Rescue Unit as well as emergency medical service personnel were called to assist in retrieving the body, according to Mojapelo.
The other miner was completely buried under the soil and it took rescuers several hours before they could 1 recover the body.
The deceased were identified as Jeremiah Serota (49) and Freddy Ngwenyama (41).
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba has warned members of the public to desist from engaging in illegal mining activities as this was an illegal and hazardous activity.
