Strike still on, no danger says CEO

Thulani Zulu, Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Airports Authority Limited (Gaal) today (Friday) told Polokwane Observer that negotiations are still on between the management of Gaal and strikers at the Polokwane International Airport.
“Aircraft landing at the airport is not in any danger, however,” he assured. “We have contingency plans in place.”
According to a shop steward from the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union
Kate Matlou, 85% of essential workers at the Polokwane International Airport are on strike, demanding higher wages, better medical aid benefits and a R1 600 housing allowance. The striking workers include fire and rescue workers, aviation security staff, maintenance workers, cleaning and information desk staff as well as apron charge staff responsible for collecting airport fees.
