Baroka Football Club star and top goal scorer in the National First Division (NFD), Thabiso Kutumela was on Monday called up by South African u.23 Soccer Team Coach, Owen da Gama to be part of the national team that will take part in the 2015 Africa u.23 Cup of Nations tournament scheduled to take place in Senegal from 28 November to 12 December.
Kutumela has been in a scintillating form for the Ga-Mphahlele based outfit and it is not a surprise that his nine goals in the division caught the eye of the national team selectors.
Baroka owner, Khurishi Mphahlele said they were proud of their player’s achievements and wished him the very best in the tournament. “We are happy to have representation in the national team, it augurs well for us. It is a sign that we are doing something right at the team. Last season Gift Motupa did us proud in the national team and now it is Kutumela. We are certainly happy with the progress of our players,” Mphahlele said.
He expressed the view Kutumela’s call-up was long overdue. “I once told him that if he keeps playing well and scores goals he will represent the country one day and it happened. This goes for all the players in the team. If they continue to work hard they will be rewarded,” Mphahlele said.
Kutumela reportedly said he was happy to have been selected and that he vowed to give his best during the tournament.
