Polokwane Municipality has set aside a budget of R2 million to upgrade Seshego Stadium during the 2016/17 financial year.
The Stadium has a capacity of 8 000 seats as opposed to the old Peter Mokaba Stadium which boasts 18 000 seats including a VIP area.
According to Assistant Manager for Communications at the Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo the upgrading of the Seshego stadium will include the building of dressing rooms, installation of irrigation system, installation of drainage system, installation of lightings, installation of a parameter fence and turnstiles. “The pavilion seats will also be numbered to ensure total holding capacity. This work will ensure that the Seshego Stadium is developed to national standards that would allow it to host national and international events. The stadium would also be able to host night events after the upgrades are complete,” Mothapo said.
He also added that apart from the Seshego Stadium upgrades, the municipality will implement projects to upgrade and construct sporting facilities and stadiums in the rural clusters.
