Residents of SAVF Martha Hofmeyr were surprised when Polokwane acting Executive Mayor Edgar Maleka on Saturday paid a visit to the institution to deliver spinach that was harvested at Vermaak Farm at Soetdorings as part of the municipality’s Nelson Mandela Day celebrations.
Maleka told the residents that the municipality cares for the health and well-being of the elderly and deemed it appropriate to donate the spinach to the kitchen of the institution. “The elderly residents know Nelson Mandela better than we younger people do. When we live, we should always reflect whether we live according to the example that was set by Nelson Mandela. I wish you a happy Mandela Day,” Maleka said and was thereafter thanked by the residents when they sang “Ons sê baie, baie dankie” and closed the short ceremony with the singing of the National Anthem.
