Polokwane Municipality’s annual game auction was conducted in the municipal game reserve by Tirhani Auctioneers recently. A total of 680 animals which included blesbok, blue wildebeest, ostrich, red hartebeest, Burchell’s zebra, tsessebe impala, kudu and nyala, were on offer.
According to Tidimalo Chuene, Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipaltiy, game sales are conducted to maintain stock rates in the Polokwane Game Reserve. “It is done to sustain the veld and grazing. Reducing animal numbers prevents overgrazing and promotes sustainable development and ecological management,” says Chuene.
According to Chuene, prices at which the animals were sold are still at consolidation stage and the prices will be made available after the game auction report has been submitted and approved by council.
