Athletes from the Polokwane Athletic Club (PAC) joined the masses to participate in the annual Skukuza Half Marathon hosted by the Kruger Park Marathon Club on Saturday.
Not only did athletes have an enjoyable time during the race, they were also proud to have donated R7 500 to the organising committee of the half marathon. The race is used as a vehicle for raising money for nature conservation projects in the country’s national parks.
PAC raised their contribution during two Save the Rhino Run events hosted in Polokwane last year and in July.
“The rhino run is only a training run for athletes. There is no prize money and all entry fees go towards the Skukuza Half Marathon,” PAC’s Johan van Vuuren said, adding that it was the ideal practice run for both professional and amateur athletes.
Club Chairperson Corrie Calitz and Van Vuuren handed the cheque to Kruger Park Marathon Club before the start of Saturday’s event.
