The games annually see athletes from various rural communities battling for supremacy in dibeke, diketo, kgati, ncuva, morabaraba, jukskei, kho-kho, Iintonga and drie stokkies and were set to be staged this month in all five districts.
The games are also known for promoting heritage and celebrating the rich history of the diverse cultures of South Africa.
Confirming the cancellation, Spokesperson for the department, Lucky Tshilimandila, said they have also postponed all schools sport.
