A provincial investigation team has been assigned to investigate the intricate, high profile murder case in which local businessperson Rameez Patel stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima in April.
Patel was arrested on suspicion of murder six days after Fatima’s body was discovered in their flat in Nirvana. He has since been granted bail after spending more than a month behind bars, all along claiming his innocence and blaming the murder on burglars.
Police official David Nkuna who initially investigated the matter, told the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court there had been no visible forced entry into the couple’s home at the time of the incident. During a second hearing session Nkuna, when “forcefully compelled” to testify while he was on study leave, collapsed in the dock. He said he was not emotionally and psychologically fit to testify. He was instructed to return to the dock after 19 May.
The dossier has since been handed to a provincial task team under the leadership of a senior Police official, William Ramakgobedu.
Ronel Otto, Provincial Police Spokesperson said Ramakgobedu is a skilled detective with more than 20 year’ experience in the field.
