Premier Stan Mathabatha on Monday appointed Thonias Malele as acting Head of Department (HOD) and Accounting Officer of the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure.
Departmental Spokesperson, Paena Galane informed that the appointment of Malele, who is General Manager Strategic Management within the department, is for the period until the case against Madidimalo Chaamano is finalised, but not exceeding six months.
“He will exercise the powers conferred upon him and perform the duties assigned to an Accounting Officer in terms of the Public Finance Management Act as amended, the Treasury Regulations or by Treasury,” Galane said.
Chaamano is one the three HODs suspended by Mathabatha last year September.
Congratulating Malele, MEC Jerry Ndou is quoted to have said he wished Malele all the best in executing his tasks and steering the Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure ship to greater heights during his service delivery mandate.
He also thanked Kate Machaba for the role she played as acting HOD for the past 12 months.
