The third Limpopo Debtsafe Tour de Pot school mountain bike challenge was held in Mokopane on Saturday. The event was a huge success despite the cold, rain and mud and cyclists from schools all over the province came to participate in this popular event.
Many first time entrants tackled the Tour de Pot and the day was filled with intense racing from the front runners in all the categories to compete for a place in the Limpopo School Cycling MTB Team that will go on to compete in the nationals at Hoërskool Bekker on 3 and 4 October.
Johan van Dijkhorst, head of the Limpopo School Mountainbike (MTB) Series was very impressed with the well marked and carefully planned route by Hein du Plessis from Debtsafe.
This route included a rocky garden, bridge ‘over troubled water’, roller coaster and single tracks and the muddy terrain was another challenge to overcome.
In the Limpopo Debtsafe School Mountain Biking Series the school cyclists will compete as individuals to achieve Limpopo School Cycling MTB colours from the sub junior categories upwards. The top three in each category will be rewarded with Limpopo colours. The school with the most points at the end of the series will also walk away with the Debtsafe Limpopo School MTB Series Trophy.
Hein and Linda du Plessis from Debtsafe said they were very happy with the attendance of the school cyclists and could see on the smiley muddy faces that the children enjoyed it. “It is a privilege for Debtsafe to be part of the Limpopo School MTB Series and we are looking forward to the fourth Tour de Lip taking place on the 19th of September at Louis Trichardt,” Hein said.
