Black Leopards Football Club made clear their intentions of returning to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when they scored a huge 2-0 victory over Jomo Cosmos in the first match of the National First Division (NFD) Promotional Play-Offs at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.
Leopards’ goals were scored by Ivan Mahangwahaya and Siphelelele Ntshangase, who is also the team‘s top goal scorer this season with 10 goals scored in 30 matches.
Spokesperson for the team, Berry Ramunenyiwa said the victory over Cosmos is a sign of good things to come. “We said at the beginning of the season that our goal is to return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and we are certain that we will get there. We have been consistent and focused throughout the season and we can’t slip up now. We still have two matches to play in the play-offs and they won’t be easy, because all the teams want a spot in the PSL,” Ramunenyiwa said.
He also attributed his team’s positive start in the play-offs to dedication and zeal by the players. “Everyone, the technical team and the players, are motivated. Another motivational factor is that the players have realised that they don’t belong in the NFD but the top league and that has been a huge driving force behind the team. Our aim is to win all the last remaining matches and gain PSL promotion,” Ramunenyiwa said.
In the last remaining fixtures will play Jomo Cosmos again in the second leg at Vaal Technikon Stadium on Wednesday and complete the campaign with Moroka Swallows at Thohoyandou Stadium on 31 May. Kick-off for all the matches is scheduled for 15:00.
