Horse lovers of all ages gathered at the Broadlands Equestrian Centre in Polokwane this weekend for the South African National Equestrian Schools Association’s (Sanesa) Limpopo event. The event was the fourth of the qualifiers for selection to the Limpopo team.
Most disciplines, including equitation, show jumping, dressage and the newer Prix Caprilli, were represented when primary and high school learners showed their skills and riding techniques.
Riders competed to accumulate points to qualify their schools and themselves for regional and provincial team selection. The national Sanesa championships will be held from 8 to 10 October at Misty Meadows in Johannesburg.
The schools’ points will be used to determine the top school teams to qualify for participation at national level. At the time of going to press, Sanesa secretary, Louise Hunter was still loading the results on the system.
Polokwaneans can look forward to the Capricorn Endurance Ride, an 80 km endurance ride starting at the Chris Hofmeyr Primary School on Saturday.
Entries close tommorrow (Friday). The first leg of the endurance ride is 40 km long, the second 28 km and the last leg 16 km. The race starts at 06:00, with groups leaving every 15 minutes until 07:00. For more information contact Christine Pienaar on 071 888 1272 or Pierre Pienaar on 083 227 2874.
