This weekend marked the beginning of the 2015/16 Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) club cricket season with participating clubs across the province taking part in the first games of the season on Sunday.
Clubs compete in four leagues, premier, promotional, Polokwane regional and Waterberg League.
“The most interesting fixtures will be in the premier league where defending champions Eagles Cricket Club will have to take care of not losing their title as winners of the 2014/15 season,” LIC Club Cricket and Facilities Coordinator Sedibu Mohlaba said.
The Eagles played against last season’s promotional league winners, Al-Fatah Cricket Club while the Hornbills Old Boys played against Nkowankowa and Aces Cricket Club took on Potties Old Boys at various venues across the province. Seshego Cricket Club got up against Louis Trichardt Cricket Club.
“All fixtures with the promotional league will take place every Sunday at different playing fields.
“The Polokwane regional league and Waterberg league will commence every Saturday in respective regions and will be joined by the newly established LIC ladies league which will start on 17 October,” Mohlaba said, adding that there are interesting times ahead for LIC. He urged cricket lovers to support local teams and more information can be obtained from the www.limpopoimpalacricket.co.za.
Mohlaba could at the time of going to print not provide the results of the first games played.
