Good news for residents of the city is that the central swimming pool in Burger Street will be converted to a heated pool before reopening after the winter recess. The estimated cost of the modification is set at R5 million.
This follows after the swimming pool was not opened for the previous summer season due to repair and maintenance work that could just not get underway. Events had to be cancelled and taken to other locations, even outside the province. Although most of the work had been completed by the end of January this year, council resolved not to re-open the facilities with just three months of the swimming season left thereby allowing for the conversion of the pool before the coming summer season.
At time of going to print, the municipality could not confirm whether this would lead to the open season being extended in future.
