Henri Eksteen’s dojo turned into an adrenaline filled venue with the hosting of the ninth Cage Rage event. Themed All-out War, the occasion provided some professional yet extreme fighting action on Saturday evening.
The venue was sold out as local fighters as well as fighters from Tzaneen and Mokopane engaged in action and the audience remained in high spirits throughout the event. Local Mixed Martial Arts fighter Cassie Bezuidenhout from the Wild West Warriors team was crowned the new Pro-am South African World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation (Wimaao) champion within the Last Man Standing ultimate challenge. He walked away with the championship belt and a R3 000 cash prize sponsored by Eksteen.
Bezuidenhout’s brother, Franna van der Ende fought his way through to the overall second place, making it the first time ever that two siblings end up in the final showdown fighting for the title.
The preliminary amateur bouts saw Abram Makobela beat Brandon Mashinya. Kobus Young beat Donovan Kotze. Bricks Motshike was the overall winner in a nail biting triple threat bout with runner-up Lesetja Maja, while Sydney Esterhuizen finished third.
The event concluded with a first ever bare fist brawl between Paul Kubannek and Bezuidenhout. Kubannek choked out an exhausted Bezuidenhout in the first round.
Cage Rage 10 will be hosted within the next months.
