Police are investigating cases of arson and murder following recent incidents during which a house was set alight and the body of a 14-year-old girl found in the Senwabarwana area.
Provincial Police Communications Head, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo indicated that 13 suspects were arrested last Wednesday in connection with the torching of a house of a 63-year-old woman who they reportedly accused of witchcraft, and being responsible for the disappearance of the 14-year-old girl.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Senwabarwana Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) for a formal bail application.
Meanwhile, police opened a murder case after the body of the missing girl was discovered by community members at Driekoppies on Sunday.
Mojapelo indicated that police have been searching for the missing girl since 5 May. A search operation was conducted by the police’s air wing, K9 Unit as well Search and Rescue Unit but without any success. Her body was allegedly partially burnt.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba is saddened by the brutal murder of the child and has instructed the investigators to waste no time in hunting down the killer(s).
