The South African National Blood Services (SANBS) requires a constant supply of blood to satisfy the ceaseless demand for this lifesaving commodity. The service relies heavily on the goodwill and support of businesses, schools and other institutions to motivate people to become donors or continue to donate regularly.
Sasol Bendor is one of the businesses that feel strongly about the matter and therefore wants to make it worth your while to be a donor. Persons who donate blood at the SANBS’ mobile unit at the filling station every 56 days will receive a voucher entitling them to a free car wash.
The learners of Northern Academy’s new campus near Mall of the North also understand the importance of being a blood donor as was proven by the 43 learners who on Saturday reported to the mobile unit on campus to donate blood.
These learners are boarders who stayed in the hostel for the weekend and many of them donated for the first time. Most of them shared the opinion that although initially apprehensive at the thought of the procedure it was not painful at all and to have given a gift which will save someone’s life made it all worthwhile.
The SANBS mobile will be at the Edgars court in Mall of the North from 24 to 27 September from 09:00 should you wish to donate blood.
A person is a suitable donor when he is between the ages of 16 and 65, weighing more than 50 kg, enjoying good health and leading a sexually safe lifestyle.
