Members of the Polokwane Bowls Club flocked to the local courts on Saturday to participate in the first friendly match in six months.
The first event saw local players from the club warming up for the season ahead.
Due to Covid-19 regulations still in place the club is only allowed 30 players on the courts at a time. “Even with the event being a friendly between the 10 teams, they locked horns in full force as they battled it out for a spot on the podium,“ club member, Mervyn Osborne said.
He added that to make sure the club was upholding all Covid-19 regulations, municipal representatives visited the club to see that sanitation and social distancing are adhered to.
According to the regulations official, competitions are not yet allowed but the residents are invited play socially at the club on weekends, but urged to keep to the rules and social distancing during game play, and comply with all regulations.
The team of Evelin Cloete and Shiela Sasser was unbeatable during Saturday’s event.
People are welcome to join the social games on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Masks are available and non-members will have to pay R40 to participate.
“We are waiting for Bowls South Africa for more information but for now only social events are allowed,” Osborne said.
