Polokwane Athletics Club (PAC) will host the second Save the Rhino Training Run at their clubhouse at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday and all funds raised will be donated to the Skukuza Marathon Club during the annual Skukuza half-marathon set to take place on 1 August at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park.
The Rhino Training Run will start at the PAC club house which will also serve as finish point.
Athletes can choose between a 5 km or 10 km run which will cost R30 per entry.
Athletes who finish the race will receive a medal or pocket badge. The 10 km run will start at 07:45 and follow a double lap around the two stadiums with a water point at the halfway mark and the finish. The starter’s gun will announce the start of the 5 km run at 08:00.
PAC’s social committee will host a champagne brunch after the training run and hamburgers will be sold. The fireplace in the club will be lit early morning, not only to keep the club house warm but also to provide fire for those who would like to braai. Interested parties should provide their own meat.
Club member Johan van Vuuren urged the community to support the event to help collect money to save the rhino. “The race is open to everyone so please challenge your friends and family to participate,” he said. For more information contact Van Vuuren on 083 277 2505.
