A 32-year-old self-proclaimed prophet was expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the alleged rape of a 26-year-old woman on Sunday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the suspect was arrested following swift and intense investigations by the Burgersfort Cluster Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
The incident apparently happened last Tuesday when the woman received a call from the self-proclaimed prophet.
The man is reportedly known to the victim and during the telephone conversation he indicated that he needed to perform some rituals on her, according to Ngoepe.
Ngoepe said that the suspect had apparently mixed a concoction after his arrival at the house and ordered the woman to drink it. Minutes later she reportedly started feeling dizzy whereafter she was allegedly raped several times before the suspect fled the scene, according to Ngoepe.
The incident was reported to the Police and a manhunt ensued. The suspect was traced and arrested at his home in Mashifane Park outside Burgersfort.
