Traffic officers arrested 43 motorists of which 37 were under the influence of alcohol, two for speeding and four for outstanding warrants in Limpopo on the weekend, a clear indication that Operation Ndadzi launched by the Department of Transport and Community Safety at the onset of the Festive Season is bearing fruit.
The operation is envisaged to proceed during and beyond the Festive Season and the results of the weekend is proof that traffic officers are on a mission to rid Limpopo’s roads of misbehaving motorists in an effort to ensure a safer holiday season.
Deputy Director Public Relations at the department, Matome Moremi indicated that MEC Makoma Makhurupetje was concerned about the high number of persons caught drinking and driving.
The department has reiterated that traffic officers will make it their business to arrest those who are found driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Moremi who said that the increase in the number of drunken drivers apprehended now that the Festive Season has started was disturbing.
“We once more call on motorists to arrange with friends or family to take them home when they’ve had too much to drink.”
