Crime does not pay and even after many years of getting away with it the truth may eventually come out, even if you are about to retire.
Lesiba Lazarus Lebelo (59) was arrested for allegedly using a fraudulent Matric certificate to acquire employment at the then University of the North in 1996. He was serving a one-month notice to retire at the end of the month at the time of his arrest.
Initial investigations revealed that the serial number of the certificate he used belonged to somebody else, meaning that Lebelo fraudulently earned over R10 million in his 19 years of service as Labour Relations Manager at the University of Limpopo’s Turfloop Campus.
He was granted R3 000 bail by the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court where
he appeared on a charge of fraud yesterday (Wednesday) following his arrest at his home in Penina Park, Polokwane on Tuesday evening.
He will be back in court again on 26 November 2015.
