Businesspersons can still submit tenders for the National Schools Nutrition Programme, as the closing date has been extended. This follows after a tender box wherein tenders could be placed on the premises of the Department of Education was destroyed when it burst into flames shortly before the initial closing date.
In a media release issued by the Provincial Office of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on Monday, a concern was raised that the tender will be cancelled, but Department of Education Spokesperson Naledzani Rasila confirmed yesterday (Wednesday) that the closing date was extended to 17 June to allow prospective service providers to submit tenders.
Ronel Otto, Provincial Spokesperson of the Police, said that the investigation into the destruction of the tender box has been taken over by the Hawks. Hangwani Mulaudzi, Spokesperson of the Hawks, confirmed that the unit is on top of the investigation.
“We are working closely with the Department of Education and the investigation is in a sensitive stage. We regard the matter as serious and requested the Department of Education to safeguard incoming tender documents,” Mulaudzi said.
