Polokwane music and dance enthusiasts were treated to a breathtaking collaboration of dance and the music of legendary rock band Queen at the Farmyard Theatre over the weekend.
Titled ‘Somebody to Love’ the show centred on the theme of human relations. It featured 18 of Queen’s greatest songs that were especially arranged for the production by Du Preez Strauss. Strauss, who has worked as artistic consultant, composer, music director, pianist, conductor and performer, has accumulated several production credits on stage and television productions in South Africa and abroad.
Acclaimed choreographers Debbie Rakusin (African Footprint) and Timothy Le Roux explored the facets of relationships in an elegant and sophisticated show brimming with atmosphere, ambience and superlative entertainment. Mzanzi Production, South Africa’s cutting edge dance company, Ruskin and Le Roux sculpted a two-part homage to love using 12 of the best Gauteng based dancers. General Manager of The Farmyard Trading Post and Winery, Mr Jacques Vonderstein described the show as awesome and one of the best productions in the country.
“This was exactly what the people of this town were craving for. Polokwane has never seen a show like this before. We are glad that we managed to give the people of this city something new and exciting,” said Vonderstein. All shows were sold out and the theatre packed to the brim. This is an event that will be talked about for a long time.
