Pops to take Polokwane by storm

Iconic multi-instrumentalist Pops Mohamed is set to rock Polokwane at the end of this month when he returns for an official launch of Society Vibes_Fast 4wrd>> on Limpopo territory.

The show at Meropa Conference Centre on 31 July will be the result of a scheduled collaboration with the Limpopo Youth Orchestra. According to LYO Director Simoné Aronje they were working towards an intended recording of an album of songs of artists who hail from the province to be performed by the young orchestra members in a Gauteng studio in September. Mohamed also briefly performed during a recent concert of the Limpopo Youth Orchestra at Helena Franz Special School in Senwabarwana.

With the fusion album Mohamed is said to have escalated the boundaries of his talents and his music with a project described as a symphony of spoken word infused with translucent beats that compel one to join the movement. Having taken 18 months to complete, the album picks up from the precedence set by Society Vibes-A New Hope released 13 years ago. It is mentioned in a media release that Mohamed took a new approach on this record by inviting several guests to his home studio in Norwood to work with him on this fresh and young record. "Breathing new life into Society Vibes_Fast 4wrd>> are leaders in the new age music scene such as rapper Zubz, lady of words Nstiki Mazwai and former Isidingo actress/ singer/poet Lesego Motsepe."

Mohamed is quoted describing Society Vibes_Fast 4wrd>> as the knowledge transference between the young guns and the more mature musicians while still maintaining the sound that garnered him an army of fans in his career that spans decades.

Mohamed has thus far recorded in South Africa, Germany, Copenhagen, Vietnam, Belgium, New York, Oslo, Finland, Ireland, Zanzibar, Namibia, Nepal as well as London and created 37 albums.

On Aronje’s request the recently released photo book Red Hot Limpopo, a visual feast by local editor Yolande Nel, will also be featured on the evening.

Tickets for the show cost R100 and can be obtained from Meropa Casino and Entertainment World and Dakota outlets in Polokwane. Contact Aronje on 083 494 9594.
