During its most recent meeting, the Limpopo Independent Newspapers Editors’ Forum took a decision on a chairperson to permanently steer the structure. A unanimous decision saw Polokwane Observer’s Editor, Yolande Nel, continuing to serve as chairperson after holding the interim position since the establishment of the forum in March this year. The Editors’ Forum of LiN, a network that represents nine independent print media titles across Limpopo, is made up of a team of dynamic and skilled editors bound by certain common denominators, which include extensive experience in the field of community journalism and mutual cooperation aimed at enhancing the footprint of the network. Apart from creating a winning working relationship beneficial to the entities in the LiN network, the Editors’ Forum acts as representative for editorial contributors on the respective staff components of the newspapers resorting under the umbrella body. It also aims to address challenges arising from and issues impacting on the work they are engaged in. Nel expressed the thought that the forum was a fresh initiative set to impact positively on the unique landscape characterised by community newspapers in the province.
