The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Limpopo Sport Council mourns the death of Ms Maishibe Suzan Monama, President of Limpopo Netball and a member of Limpopo Sport and Recreation Council where she was responsible for women in sport.
Monama, who passed away last week, was laid to rest at Sekgakgapeng village in Mokopane last Saturday.
Monama, known for her unrelenting, selfless and passionate commitment to the sport, contributed immensely to the growth of sport in the province and nationally.
This was evident from the many roles she played throughout the years ranging from President of Netball in Limpopo, member of Limpopo Sport and Recreation Council responsible for women in sport to most recently manager for the u.19 Limpopo Central Netball Team.
She conducted coaching clinics in various schools and communities. The list of her contributions is endless.
The Limpopo community still expected a lot from her especially in the context of the focus and importance she placed on the development of school sport.
"Our sense of loss and the searing pain we feel, is assuaged by the monumental legacy she left in sport. We wish to express and convey our deepest condolences to the family and her colleagues.
"Netball has lost a giant. We are hopeful that her colleagues will continue building on the footwork that she has done," MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Joyce Mashamba said.
President of Capricorn Region Netball, Cecilia Molokwane regarded Monama as someone who played a pivotal role in the development of netball in the province.
"She had immense love for the game and she made sure that Sekhukhune District was registered with Netball South Africa.
"Her dedication and commitment will be surely missed," Molokwane said.
