DA wants Mathale out of office

Following recent revelations and damning findings made by the ministerial team tasked with intervention in Limpopo’s financial matters, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has joined a long list of critics calling for Premier Cassel Mathale to step down.
DA Provincial Leader, Ms Desiree van der Walt said Mathale as the Premier should take the fall for the current state of government. “If the report leaks from senior government officials have any factual basis, then one thing becomes very clear and it is that Mr Mathale must resign as Premier of Limpopo. Ultimately the buck stops with him and he must therefore take political responsibility for the financial chaos in Limpopo and resign,” she said.
She added that if Mathale indeed abused his position as leader of government to prioritise infrastructure projects that would benefit companies with links to him and his political allies at the expense of service delivery, then he should quit.
“If Mathale is unwilling to go, then the ANC as a political party must get rid of him. Failure to do so indicates tacit approval of corruption, or at least a failure to understand its seriousness. If Mathale does not resign, the DA will pursue every available constitutional means to make sure that he accounts for this mess,” Van der Walt said.
