Danél Esterhuysen - Houses set alight after alleged witchcraft. - Police in Maake are investigating an incident of public violence after a group of people set alight two houses of a family after accusing them of witchcraft. According to information the incident happened on Monday morning when a group of villagers from the Magaung village at Sekororo, Maake accused an elderly woman and her daughter of practising witchcraft. Two houses belonging to the family were set alight and destroyed in the incident. Nobody was injured. The elderly woman, her daughter and seven children were taken to the Maake Police Station for their own safety. They were collected by family members from another village on Tuesday morning and are now staying with them. No arrests have yet been made but Police investigations into the arson and public violence charges are continuing. Soccer coach rapes boy (8) The Lebowakgomo Police arrested a 24-year-old man on Tuesday after he allegedly raped an eight-year-old boy on Sunday. According to police spokesperson, Capt Mamphaswas Seabi the suspect, the boy’s soccer coach told his team of young boys to collect donations for the team on Sunday. After the team completed the task they all met up at the coach’s house whereafter he chased all the boys but the victim away. “He then raped the young boy at around 17:00,” Seabi said. The suspect is set to appear in the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court this week. Learners destroy classroom At Namakgale, Police are investigating charges of arson after a group of learners from Sebalamakgolo High School set a classroom alight. The incident happened between 11:00 and 12:00 on Tuesday. According to information the suspects were disgruntled because they were not allowed to go on an educational school trip to Polokwane. A classroom filled with books and furniture was set alight and totally destroyed. Another classroom was damaged. No arrests were made yet and police investigations continue. Man beaten to death The Police in Lebowakgomo are investigating a murder case after Mr Masela Jackson Mangwedi (38) was killed just outside the town on Sunday. A post mortem revealed Mangwedi was beaten to death. Police are still on the lookout for a suspect thought to have committed the murder.
