The African National Congress’ (ANC) Women and Youth leagues in the province have thrown their weight behind the embattled Provincial Government.
Following the Joint National Cabinet Teams media conference on findings on the province’s state of finances, among other things, on Thursday the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) issued a media statement voicing its concerns about the effect the intervention on service delivery in the province and further blasted the team for allegedly side-stepping ANC internal protocols.
“We are also concerned about the shifting rhetoric by the National Treasury.
“Interestingly, the rhetoric towards the end of 2011 was that the provincial administration couldn’t pay service providers because it was bankrupt. The rhetoric has now shifted.
“We are told that the reason for non-payment of service providers is internal sabotage to make national government look bad. Who is fooling who?
“We would also like to question the manner in which the National Task Team has side-stepped internal protocol processes of the ANC led provincial government,” the statement released by ANCWL Provincial Spokesperson Joyce Maluleke read.
The ANC Youth League’s Provincial Secretary Jacob Lebogo also took a swipe at the intervention and said it has left the province faced with unprecedented service delivery problems.
“The ANCYL is disappointed in the National Government and it’s so called intervention in Limpopo.
“Placing departments under administration created a lot of problems for our people instead of helping.
“As a result of the interference by National Cabinet, service delivery in Limpopo is literally paralysed.
“For the first time since 1994 we are experiencing problems,” Lebogo said.
He said among the problemsy that the intervention has caused are scholar transport, learners nutrition programmes, bursaries, medication and hospital food not being paid.
