Polokwane Pedallers Cycling Club (PPCC) handed over a donation of R10 000 to the Limpopo Honorary Game Rangers during a function at Ons Tuiste/Our Home last Tuesday.
Ronél Delport, Chairperson of PPCC, said the funds were raised from sponsorships and voluntary donations made by competitors in the recent E H Hassim Lentetrap Mountain Bike Challenge. This initiative allowed the club to donate the money to the anti-rhino poaching initiatives of the rangers.
“This is a way to show our appreciation for the work that they do to preserve the wild life in the country and specifically the endangered rhino. One of the great attractions of living in Polokwane is being able to hike, cycle and drive around the game reserve to see and experience our animals in the wild,” Delport said.
She proudly informed that a record entry of 465 cyclists, young and old from all corners of Limpopo participated in the Lentetrap in August. It was a Cycling South Africa sanctioned race thus complying with the strict standards set for competitive mountain bike marathon and half marathon racing and counting towards earning provincial colours. “In addition there was a 17 km fun ride and a 8,5 km kids’ race and then the most endearing of all the “Tiny Tots” from about 3 years old had a race of their own,” Delport said.
The PPCC expressed its gratitude towards EH Hassim Hardware, the title sponsor for more than ten years, Trappers Trading, Nurtra Paints, The Tyre Rack, Toyota Financial Services, Saloojees Cycle Works, Cape Town Fish Market, Wakkaberry, Aïda Polokwane, Ocean Basket Mall of the North, Ark Printers, Nesta Foods, Panarottis Mall of the North, Amarillo Spur Steak Ranch, Ah-Ha!, F2 Vehicle Technologies and R Kirkpatrick & Sons Construction.
