Polokwane City Football Club has appointed former Orlando Pirates mentor Julio Leal as their coach for next Premier Soccer League season.
The Brazilian previously had a stint with Moroka Swallows and Amazulu and joins the club following the recent departure of Kosta Papic.
Chairman of the club, Johnny Mogaladi said they wanted to bring a coach who would bring balance in the team after they had conceded the most goals in the league. “We brought in Leal because we feel is aware of our attacking game and he will fit well,” Mogaladi said.
Last season City conceded 15 goals in 10 league matches and finished the league on the 12th position of the league. This season they have only managed to win two matches out of 10 and they are lying in 13th position of the League.
Club Spokesperson, Tumelo Makgora said the coach will not be the bench when they take on Platinum Stars on Saturday at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium as he is awaiting for his work permit. “We are still finalising his work permit. He will not be working at all but assistant coach Nkueni Mayala will guide the team on the day,” Makgoara said.
Makgoara informed that their aim was to win the two matches of the league before the Christmas break. Their last game of the year is against Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on 19 December.
“We want to go in the Christmas break in the top 8 position but first we must beat Platinum Stars on Saturday and also win against Arrows. It is important to win those games because it is going to be tough in the second round of the season,” Makgoara said.
