Polokwane Athletic Club fired up for Comrades

Polokwane Athletic Club (PAC) has entered 136 athletes for this year’s annual Comrades Marathon set to take place on Sunday.
The club held their goody bag breakfast as a final gathering for their Comrades athletes on Saturday during which Chairperson Corrie Calitz wished them every success for the 90,184 km down run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban.
“Our athletes are well prepared well after running hundreds of kilometres to practise for this year’s race. They are in high spirits and looking forward to the day,” Calitz said.
The club has high hopes for possible silver medal athletes Andries Malete, Pelly Lamola, Tedius Forotiya, Cedrick Motemele and Hennie van Niekerk while female athlete Pearl Hughes is expected to achieve a Bill Rowan medal.
While PAC has entered nearly 20 novices they are also very proud of their entrants who have run multiple races. Terence Burger is about to run his 20th Comrades, 11 fellow runners have already completed ten marathons and three will run a tenth time.
Calitz expressed gratitude towards Capricorn District Municipality for providing a bus to transport about 60 athletes from Limpopo to the event and back.
