Nirvana is a place of perfect peace and happiness. In Hinduism and Buddhism, Nirvana is the highest state that someone can attain; a state of enlightenment, meaning a person’s individual desires and suffering go away. It’s often used casually to mean any place of happiness.
Whether this was the idea in 1973 when Nirvana was established by the Pietersburg City Council on a portion of the Ivydale Agricultural Holdings is an open question, but judging from the prosperity and well-being of the residents and business people of Nirvana, it may well be.
Nirvana was originally established to provide accommodation to members of the Indian community only, but due to the increased demand for more stands, the municipality facilitated further additions to the original town and Nirvana is now a ‘town’ on its own, which caters for the residents of Polokwane at large. Apart from the two Mosques and the Hindu temple, Nirvana also boasts the presence of churches for other denominations, a number of schools and pre-schools and numerous formal as well as informal businesses. A community centre, sports grounds, clinic and library serves the needs of the community.
Later in 1973 Superbia was also proclaimed as a light industrial extension and has, due to rezoning and further development, taken its place next to Nirvana with more shops and businesses to compliment the western business district.
The Motor City development at the city’s southern entrance forms the focal point of the formal business district and boasts popular brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, Toyota, Lexus, Volkswagen and Audi.
It has attracted a number of related businesses to compliment other long standing businesses known for their diversity of products and services.
Nirvana is also renowned for its textile vendors and the curries and condiments available from its family owned supermarkets.
The shops and businesses of Nirvana and Superbia cater for a diverse group of clients and businesses like Gilani Tile Warehouse, Asian Cuisine, Carpet and Décor, We Brand It and Auto Sound and Alarms are popular suppliers to the greater community. Goldwagen, Woodstuff, Siyaya Service Centre and Buco Hardware Buildware and a host of other flourishing concerns make it unnecessary to look any further.
Ample parking and easy access to businesses makes it a safe venue for clients who wish to enjoy personal and dedicated service from vendors and service providers that have their clients’ interests at heart and of which some are family enterprises who regard clients as part of their own families.
