Intelligence-led operations continue to yield positive results with 546 suspects arrested on various charges across the province over the weekend.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the suspects are aged between 19 and 56 years and arrested on charges ranging from housebreaking and theft, theft of motor vehicle, hijacking, contravention of the Immigration Act, house and business robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.
He added that 23 vehicles, some of which were used to transport dagga and others stolen elsewhere in the country, were confiscated. Police further recovered seven firearms, 25 rounds of ammunition, seven cell phones, R19 900 cash, dagga valued at R5 700, ten rolls and three bags of electric cables and an assortment of stolen items such as knives, gas bottles, water pumps, wheelbarrows, shoes, spotlights and clothing. Ngoepe said the operations were conducted through roadblocks, stop and search operations and tracing of wanted suspects as well as raiding of illegal liquor stores.
A total of 617 people and 1 009 vehicles were stopped and searched while 54 traffic summonses and 88 liquor summons were issued. The arrested suspects will appear in respective courts soon.
