Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) appointed Mavis Matlala as acting Municipal Manager with effect from last Tuesday.
Matlala’s permanent position is Executive Manager in the Strategic Support Department and she will occupy the position of acting Municipal Manager for 90 days to allow council to appoint a permanent incumbent for the position that became vacant when Ngoako Molokomme recently resigned two years before the expiration of his contract.
Matlala’s appointment came as no surprise because she is the most senior official at the establishment (in terms of years’ service) and has 14 years’ service with the municipality and a wealth of experience in local government matters. She holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Limpopo and is currently studying at the University of South Africa towards an LLB-degree.
“My focus will be to catch up on the backlog with the provision of water and sanitation for our communities. I will also fast-track the appointment of senior managers to ensure that the three vacancies at that level are appropriately filled as a matter of urgency. This will strengthen the municipality’s institutional capacity to deliver services and operate effectively,” Matlala said. Matlala is married and has five children. Despite her busy programme, she makes time for her family and assists her children with their schoolwork.
