Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder and have opened an inquest docket after Sello Mathagane, 41, allegedly killed his girlfriend, stabbed her mother and later hanged himself in Seshego Zone 1 yesterday (Sunday).
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said Mathagane reportedly went to his girlfriend, Mamma Lebogang Ngobeni’s parental home at about 21:30 on Saturday where he broke down the door and started attacking her with a sharp object. “Mathagane allegedly also stabbed Ngobeni’s mother several times before fleeing the scene. Responding Police officers found Ngobeni’s body in her bedroom with multiple stab wounds while her mother was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital,” Ngoepe said.
Police launched a manhunt for Mathagane and only found his body hanging from a tree close to the victims’ house yesterday morning.
“We do not know the motive for the killing as yet and forms part of the investigation. Domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Ngoepe said.
