Limpopo 2015 pass rate drops by 7% to 65,9%

Fulufhelani Mashapa from Tshivhase Secondary School in Vhembe District took top honours during the provincial awards ceremony for the 2015 National Senior Certificate results at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort yesterday (Wednesday). Her golden pass contributed to an overall provincial pass rate of 65,9%.
She was followed by Hamadi-she Yakob Mathivha, from Mbilwi Secondary School in the Vhembe District and thirdly, Mapula Gift Sebati from Dendron Secondary School in the Capricorn District.
Of the 101 575 learners who wrote exams, 46 946 obtained their National Senior Certificate with 20 993 candidates achieving Bachelor passes. Vhembe was pronounced the top district followed by Mopani and Capricorn.
During the occasion Education MEC Ishmail Kgetjepe announced the Limpopo results, which dropped from 72.9 % in 2014 to 65.9% in 2015 resulting in a 7% decline in the pass rate. Eight schools managed a 100% pass rate while at Naka Mmakgoma in Sekhukhune district all ten candidates failed.
Premier Stan Mathabatha encouraged those who did not make it, saying failure was not a fatality and that failing to pass was no reason for contemplating suicide. He warned hopeful future students to be aware of bogus institutions of higher learning and verify information in that regard. He was joined by, among others, his Provincial Cabinet, Members of the Legislature and mayors from across Limpopo.
