First reining qualifier a huge success

The first reining qualifier hosted by Capricorn Western Club (CWC) at Winnfield Stables on Sunday was, according to CWC Chairperson, Mariette Engels, a huge success. The event was a first for the city and the reining lured riders from across the province.
The event not only consisted of reining and Western performance but also has a Western dressage component to it. Engels explained that Reining and Western Performance Horse South Africa consists of a variety of exciting, challenging and pleasure classes such as reining, showmanship, Western pleasure and range riding.
Hannes van der Merwe and Martella van Zijl were announced as best junior and senior riders respectively, Bernadine Potgieter won the dressage and Mencke Alberts was named best youth intermediate rider.
