Eighteen golfers qualify for Sanlam Cancer Challenge

One hundred-and-two golfers from across the province entered the annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge Limpopo qualifying round hosted at the Polokwane Golf Club on Saturday.
Only 18 golfers played well enough to secure a spot in the regional finals to be hosted at the Mogol Golf Club in Lephalale in August. The final field will be announced in September to play in the final on 19 and 20 October at the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course at Sun City.
In the men’s A-division Morné Myburgh, Edwin Mackays and Devaux van der Walt took the first three positions on the podium while Dougie Eager, Charles Mdluli and Les Cook will represent the men’s B-division.
The men’s C-division will be played by Carel de Jager, Khalid Tayob and Richard Phala.
In the women’s category the A-division will be played by Desi Earle, Lynn-Marie Combrink and Luanie van Rooyen. The B- and C-division will be presented by Lynette Smith, Liz Southern, Koeksie Eager and Cathy Kamstra, Cynthia Viljoen, Anna Mashigo.
This competition is one of South Africa’s biggest mass participation sports events. Annually close to
40 000 golfers play in more than 800 club competitions countrywide in support of the Cancer Association of South Africa’s prevention programmes and patient care support.
