The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) instituted a criminal case against the MEC for Transport and Safety, Security and Liaison as well as her department head with the Police yesterday morning (Wednesday), before proceeding to open a matter with the Public Protector.
EFF Provincial Secretary Jossey Buthane arrived at Polokwane Police Station mid-morning yesterday to open a criminal case based on allegations of fraud, corruption and maladministration against Transport MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana and HOD Hanli du Plessis. At the time Buthane told Polokwane Observer he would subsequently have continued to open a case with the Public Protector. According to him the Police docket would be passed on to the Hawks.
From information contained in copies of documents at Polokwane Observer’s disposal it was learnt that the EFF would base its claims on the alleged irregular appointment of a debt collecting firm for purposes of a specialised investigation on the MEC’s request in September last year.
