Earlier today the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Capricorn Region collected a purchase of 600 pairs of school shoes to the value of an estimated R40 000 to be handed to needy young learners attached to schools from clusters in the Polokwane municipal area from next week onwards.
EFF Capricorn Regional Chairperson Ronny Malema explained that the funds had been raised from donations by the 27 EFF councillors on Polokwane Municipal Council as well as car wash projects and the sale of party t-shirts. The shoes, totalling R37 000 and varying in size from 1 to 12, would be distributed to boys and girls attending Grade R and upward. They intended targeting 68 schools in the end with a project considered to be ongoing and would want to continue generating more donations, it was indicated.
Malema attested to their main focus being needy children and the pain to see young children going to school barefoot. “We as the EFF want to change the lives of these kids. When they go to school on a hungry stomach they can’t focus. We want to restore the dignity of these kids.”
