The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Limpopo recently, in a letter directed to Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs MEC, Jerry Ndou, raised concern about a leaking reservoir at Rakgwatha village in Zebediela
DA Political Head for Lepelle Nkumpi Constituency, Katlego Phala in a media release stated that the problem was identified during a recent door to door campaign in the village.
According to Phala, the reservoir was constructed five years ago with the initial purpose of boosting and assisting other reservoirs to supply water in the village but due to the leakage it now wastes the commodity instead.
“The water wasted could significantly contribute to dealing with water requirements for this community. The DA can confirm that this was a project of Capricorn District Municipality,” Phala stated.
“To compound the matter, the DA is deeply concerned that easy access to the ladder could pose danger for children staying adjacent to the reservoir.
The DA urges MEC Ndou to fix the reservoir to allow the undisturbed supply of water to the residents,” Phala added.
CDM Media Liaison Officer, Moffat Senyatsi on Monday said the municipality was not aware of the leak because it had not been reported. “However, a team has been dispatched to the reservoir to investigate the cause and extent of the leak, take steps to repair it and prevent any water loss. We urge residents to report any leaks or bursts to 0800 666 777 as soon as they encounter it,” Senyatsi said.
