The cause of a fire which destroyed most of the administration block at Mohlakaneng High School in Seshego on Monday morning is still to be determined.
Senior Communications Manager at the Department of Education Naledzani Rasila said a special Police investigation team was still attending the scene on Tuesday. “We cannot speculate to what might have caused the fire. We leave that in the hands of the Police to determine the cause,” Rasila said.
He added that the fire started early Monday morning and destroyed the principal’s office, two technical drawing classes, a head of department’s office and the exam hall. “We are not sure of the value of the damage to the school but we believe it will be calculated in millions as not only books and computers were damaged but also the infrastructure,” Rasila said.
He said that learners were attending school since it reopened on Monday. “School was not interrupted and sacrifices were made to continue with ordinary school lessons,” Rasila said.
Seshego Police Spokesperson Mothemane Malefo confirmed that Police are investigating a case of arson.
