The financially troubled Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality has finally received a R70 million bail-out from the Provincial Government for business continuity and provision of basic services.
Provincial Government spokesperson Phuti Seloba said the money was released after the municipal council agreed to adopt a resolution on the institution of forensic investigation on the alleged corruption and mismanagement in the municipality.
Seloba further said the money, to be managed by acting municipal manager Mapule Mokoko, will also be utilised to pay service providers such as the South African Revenue Services. Seloba concluded by saying that the forensic audit has commenced and once completed would guide them in taking the appropriate steps.
