Karleen and Tshepo win national art competition

Two budding young local artists recently did the city proud when they won first prizes in their age categories at the recent ‘South Africa welcomes Greece to the 2010 Fifa World Cup’ art competition. The competition was part of the ‘My 2010 School Adventure’ Project aimed at promoting education and increasing awareness about the importance of hosting the 2010 Fifa World Cup tournament among South African children.

Local and foreign soccer fans braced the cold and converged on the Peter Mokaba Stadium in masse on Tuesday evening to see some of the world’s best soccer players in action.

Goals from Chivas’s prolific striker Javier Hernandez and the legendary Cuauhtémoc Blanco were enough to give Mexico an resounding 2-0 win over France at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last Thursday. During the 18th match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, Mexico outclassed the depleted France in all departments.

From the onset it was clear that the 1998 World Cup Champions had internal problems, not playing their usually solid game and losing ball possession for Mexico to capitalise on.

Die Polokwane tennisbane was van Saterdag tot Dins-dag ‘n miernes van bedrywighede toe rolstoeltennisspelers regoor die land saamgetrek het om in die Airports South Africa (ACSA) Limpopo tennis-ope mee te ding.

Die 70 deelnemers, waarvan 20 uit Limpopo, het in mans-, vroue- en kwadrupleeg-afdelings deelgeneem en goeie wentelings is behaal. Kgothatso Montjane van Po­lokwane het skitterspel gelewer toe sy die damesafdeling gewen het deur Mable Mankgele met 6-1 en 6-0 te verslaan.

Cravenweek-aksie


Die o.13A-Limpopo rugbyspan het teen die Westelike Provinsie in die Cravenweek te staan gekom en met 3-37 verloor. In hul wedstryd teen die Griekwas het hulle 27-5 gewen en ook die Grens se plattelandse distrikte op hul neuse laat kyk met ‘n 17-5 oorwinning. Hulle het algeheel sesde uit 18 deelnemende spanne geëindig. Hier is Michiel Lambrechts en Zivhya Malaudzi in aksie in die bitter koue Graaff-Reinet.

Lim-amateurspan vir subunie-wedstryd gekies

Die Blou Bulle Rugby-unie (BBRU) Limpopo het 22 spelers gekies as deel van ‘n amateurspan-groep wat ‘n wedstryd teen die Plattelandse span op 3 Julie speel.  Die wedstryd sal na afloop van die Subunie-toernooi wat van 1 tot 3 Julie in Lephalale (Ellisras) plaasvind, gespeel word.

Limpopo stoeiers verwerf goud


Francois Rossouw (27 tot 30 kg) van Mokopane en Jean Snyman (24 tot 27 kg) van Polokwane het albei goud verower ty­dens die onlangse Suid-Afri­­kaanse Presidente Stoei­kampioenskappe in Le­phalale en ook vir Suid-Afrikaanse kleure gekwalifiseer.

Airport shock: millions in tenders granted irregularly

A recent internal audit report on the Gateway Airport Authority Limited’s (Gaal) Polokwane Intenational Airport (PIA) has revealed that about 11 companies have been awarded tenders, said to be worth millions, without producing tax clearance certificates and their entity registration numbers in the last financial year.

Limpopo municipalities pull up socks on audits

A recent report by the Auditor General has revealed that Limpopo is one of only three provinces that registered a net gain in the number of improved municipal audit results over the previous year.

The province’s number of clean audits has improved from four to eight.

The other two provinces are Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal. The worst municipal audit opinions (disclaime and adverse) are in the Northern Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape provinces.
